We had arranged for our packs to be sent on to a beachside pension to help with the 9hr walk up and over a mountain. The first hour was along a river gently rising through orchards of oranges and pomegranates and greenhouses of peppers, tomatoes and eggplants.
We enjoyed having only a day pack and feeling like we were out for a stroll. Things went wrong when we could no longer find any way markers. The guidebook talked about turns at greenhouses, poplars, t junctions and clearings. These were every where!!!!!
We walked around in a circle for about an hour and only found the path by asking several locals. To make matters worse at some point we left the map and guide book by the track.
The next three hours was a delightful walk through pine forests following a dry river upstream. We reached several false passes caused by landslides with rock pieces as large as houses.
We have started meeting groups on organized tours. They have come from interesting places like Moldova, Ukraine and Russia. One Russian girls realized that we were native English speakers and when we told her we were from Australia she was so thrilled she hi five us and scampered off to tell her friends.
The way down was different to anything we had encountered in Turkey. We were in the understory of a dense low forrest and the ground was dark and slippery with no views.
At the bottom we met a river and followed it for half an hour to the beach.
Here we began our third misadventure for the day, as our search for the beachside pension was in vain. Staff at the only building on the beach, a cafe, directed us back the way we had come.
All well that ends well, our bags awaited us five minutes further inland than where we had met the river.
