The Chimera - the eternal flame

Tonight we went to the foothills of Mt Olympos and saw the flames which never go out. They are fed by gasses from deep underground and have burnt continuously for centuries. They burn in different places over the size of a tennis court and different outlets pop up from time to time.

The locals claim to be the origin of the Olympic Games with the eternal flame.

We went after dark to see the flames at there best - it made the negotiation of the 1 km path interesting!
